Dec. 18-22 Animal Clues

Fees: $175 Members $233, Non-members, Lunch-$32.50

Hunt for animals by the clues they leave behind. Each day a new clue will be uncovered by investigating skulls, scat, tracks and fossils. Travel to dig in a fossil pit to find ancient relics of animals that lived in Florida many years ago.

Dec. 27-29 Sharks

Fees: $105 Members $140, Non-members, Lunch-$19.50

Become shark savvy by exploring what makes sharks great predators. Watch sharks being fed, look inside a shark as we dissect one, search for shark teeth and observe different shark jaws to identify different sharks that live in the ocean. We will go to Explore A Shore if weather permits.

Parking Update for Aquarium Members
Just in the past three months, the Aquarium has added a special members only lane to our parking lot. This lane allows you to easily enter the parking lot by bypassing the manned lane for paying customers. To enter, simply enter your member ID number located on your membership card into the keypad at the gate. Please note: some of our membership cards feature a symbol that looks like a “u” with dots over it, or a smiley face: ü. This symbol is not a zero and should not be entered when you punch your member number into the keypad. The cards featuring this symbol primarily were printed before April 2006, but the new ones no longer feature it. If you would like to have a card that features just your member number without the confusing symbol, feel free to stop at the Guest Services desk, and we will reprint a new membership card for you. If you have any questions, please call 813-273-4030.

Loggerhead Turtle Released Near Naples

Wednesday morning more than 100 people on Vanderbilt Beach in Naples were delighted by the sight of a large male lagerhead turtle returning to the open waters of the Gulf. Biologists from The Florida Aquarium returned Fuego to the Gulf after a two-month rehabilitation following an illness which may have been caused by red tide. Susan Coy, veterinary technician at The Aquarium, said Fuego was brought to shore by fisherman when he was found lethargic off the coast of Naples. Firefighters used stretchers to carry the sea turtle, weighing more than 250 pounds, off the beach. He was then brought to The Florida Aquarium where he spent the last two months under the care of Aquarium biologists. "Basically, we waited," said Coy. "Fuego needed time for the toxins in his system to clear out." The return to the gulf prompted applause from the crowd of interested onlookers gathered on the beach.
