The University of Houston's Digital Library is now available! Images include historic Houston photographs, UH buildings and people, as well as photographs of the Texas City 1947 disaster and the Galveston 1915 hurricane. Shown at left are women waiting in the UH cafeteria line at the original Cougar Den. The Cougar Den, initially known as the Recreation Building, was a popular campus hangout during the early years of the University. The building was initially occupied on March 12, 1942. Building construction was rushed to completion in 60 days to meet the demand of the growing student body after World War II. The building's architect was Lamar Cato. The building has since been demolished.
At present, only one UH yearbook is available; if you wish to sponsor yours, please contact Iska Wire at igwire@uh.edu . Check out more photos and other digital images at http://digital.lib.uh.edu .
