Qwest Merger Update
|
 | Many of us have speculated for years about who might buy Qwest. That was put to rest yesterday when CenturyLink and Qwest publically announced their agreement to merge. Jay Bradley attended a QBPP Advisory Council conference call yesterday morning led by Blake Wetzel. There is certainly a sense that this transaction could be positive for the channel.
CenturyLink today is primarily a consumer based business with only $800m of its $8b in revenue coming from enterprise accounts. Most folks are thinking that the new entity really will need the expertise and know how of the Qwest Business Markets Group to execute a successful merger which might serve to minimize any disruptions to our businesses.
Chris Ancell who leads Qwest’s current Business Markets Group out of Denver has already been named to lead the new business markets group still based in Denver, so the first solid indication of change seems to be okay for us. We were also told on the call that the merger integration and transition teams will be under the direction of Ansell, so that is also good news.
As more information is released, we will keep you informed. Here is a link to the full release.
