Federal Economic Stimulus Update

It's About Jobs!

Dear Tampa Bay Partnership Investors and Stakeholders:

It is not business as usual...

The Tampa Bay Partnership is committed to creating the right economic opportunities for our region in a time of shifting resources and policies. We have supported the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) of 2009 and are now actively supporting our regional partners as they seek funding opportunities for regional projects that will create jobs and restart our economy.

The state of Florida stands to receive significant dollars through the ARRA. The final details of the funding are still being sorted out, but it looks like the state could receive about $12 billion dollars in stimulus funding.

The Tampa Bay Partnership is dedicated to ensuring our universities, education facilities, infrastructure projects, research facilities and other institutions receive the funding they need and deserve.

We are launching a two pronged effort to ensure Tampa Bay turns ARRA funds into
real jobs.

Understand our Opportunities!
The ARRA legislation is massive and many leaders on the federal, state and local levels are scrambling to interpret this legislation and quickly request proposals or execute projects. It is key that the leaders of Tampa Bay understand all of the various opportunities to secure stimulus funding.

  • Information Sessions: The Tampa Bay Partnership will be hosting a regular Thursday morning briefing conference call on the stimulus package as well as bi-weekly gathering. See the event information at left about two events next week providing opportunities for your to get and share information.

  • Web Resources: We have also launched a resource Web site at www.tampabay.org/stimulus with materials and links to the latest information and resources.  We will continuously update these resources as they become available.  If you know of additional resources which would be helpful to include, please contact Betty Carlin at 813-872-2811 or bcarlin@tampabay.org.

Advocate for Tampa Bay!
Our legislative leaders play a key role in Tampa Bay getting its fair share of stimulus funding.

  • Tallahassee Fly-In: Please join us for the Tampa Bay Partnership’s Tallahassee Fly-In on March 25th. During this trip we will meet with key members of the Bay Area Legislative Delegation (BALD) as well as our state’s leadership to talk about regional opportunities to create jobs!

In addition to the Fly-In, we will have a strong presence in both Tallahassee and Washington DC to assure Tampa Bay has the best opportunity to be successful. We will keep you up-to-date on these efforts and issue Action-Alerts when we need to apply pressure and move votes.

Because this is such a fluid process, we appreciate your thoughts and insights.  I invite you to contact me or Katie Franco at 813-872-2814, kfranco@tampabay.org.

Sincerely,

Stuart Rogel
