Weighty Confession
Forgive Me for I Have Sinned
The evil demon of estrogen took hold of my spirit and led me straight down the road of bad food and over-eating. I now feel old AND fat! I kneel at your altar and ask for forgiveness and for strength!
Cheers from your loyal convert in London,
Karen

Motivational Musing
Slim Down While You Laugh It Up!
University of Mississippi researchers found that ‘movie munchers’ ingested 28% more buttered popcorn when watching “Love Story” than those who watched the comedy “Sweet Home Alabama.” (that’s an extra 115 calories)
A Vanderbilt University study found that laughing out loud for 10-15 minutes per day burns between 10 and 40 calories. A good belly laugh causes one to gasp for air, thus exercises the diaphragm!
One group of University of Maryland volunteers were shown funny videos, while another group was shown stressful videos. The study showed that laughter keeps arteries from hardening, while stress does the opposite!

Righteous Recipe
Spanish Rice Pudding a.k.a. "arroz con leche" (rice with milk) from Soraya, Tarragona, Spain! "It`s a bit looser than American rice puddings, but I grew up eating it this way and prefer it to richer ones I`ve had. It is fat free, super easy, and really delicious."
Ingredients:
1 cup uncooked rice * 3/4 c. sugar * 1 quart plus 1/2 c skim milk * the zest of 1 lemon cut with a vegetable peeler * 1 stick cinnamon * 1 tsp vanilla * ground cinnamon (to taste)
Instructions:
In a large pot, heat the rice with just enough water to cover. Simmer for 5 min and drain, rinsing the rice with cold water. As the cooled rice drains, heat the milk almost to the boiling point. Add the rice, the lemon zest, vanilla and cinnamon stick. Simmer for 10 min. add the sugar and when it reaches the simmer, let it cook 10 min more. Pour into a decorative bowl. The pudding will thicken as it cools. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon and serve. The lemon zest is edible for those who like it.
Mucho gracias, Soraya! YUM delicious. (and I love your name, too).

Dear OLofWL ~ I think I need a little help. My husband died 8 years ago and the year after he died I gained 100 pounds. I lost all of the weight 2 years ago. In September I started experiencing a series of stressful events which have continued until this day (my cat had to be put to sleep last Wednesday), and I've gained 30 pounds back. I need a little help so that I don't regain all of that weight. I bought all new clothing at the time of my weight loss and also gave away all of my large size things, and I refuse to buy new larger clothing. I need a little encouragement! ~ D.S.
Dear D.S. ~ How amazing that after your loss, you managed to lose 100 pounds. While life is stressful and can send us reeling, pat yourself on the back for reaching out and doing something about this now. Think of it this way - those 30 pounds are merely visiting. You are not letting them move back in. Support is key. You came to the right place. We are with you 1,000 million % with you. Have you thought about starting your own KITT Club Chapter? There are no rules; just to have fun and lighten up in spirit. I have faith in you. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ What are "capers?" (referencing your Ill-Mannered Kick recipe) No one here seems to know and the bottles don't explain either. I bet the people who follow religiously the manners you listed would know, but I'm not one of those. - Kate S.
Dear Kate ~ Thanks for asking ... "The pickled and salted caper bud (also called caper) is often used as a seasoning or garnish. Capers are a common ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine. The grown fruit of the caper shrub is also used, and prepared similarly to the buds to be used as caper berries. The buds, when ready to pick, are a dark olive green and about the size of a kernel of maize. They are picked, then pickled in a vinegar or vinegar and salt solution." from wikipedia. In other words, they are these salty little devils that come in glass jars that add punch to lots of recipes. I love them - almost as much as I love a olives! ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ I had reached my weight loss goal (150) and actually lost 5 lbs. under. I was a size 12 got down to an 8. I am a tight 10 now and would like to get back to an 8. I am also about 7-9 lbs. over my original goal. In September my husband and I went to Hawaii for our anniversary and I ate and drank whatever I wanted. We returned from our vacation and I can’t seem to get back on track. Wondering if you have a kick start solution? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I just recently bought your book. I am starting that today. I also get emails from Kick in the Tush and think you are wonderful! ~ Thanks, Jackie B.
Dear Jackie ~ Know this … Gaining a few pounds here and there is not failure; it is just a part of your process – it is a part of life. You are a step closer to your goal!
Consider permanent fat removal a project and your project is “Project Jackie.” (How exciting to have a project named after you!) Think of “Project Jackie” in a holistic way. Stock your fridge with the right stuff; plan and strategize for the week’s events and then partake in fabulous activities that feed your soul. The food/weight loss part is only one thin slice of your pie. Into the ‘lite’ … ~ OLofWL

Creative Acts of Weight Loss
What is a creative act of weight loss?
It’s ANYTHING that you do that feels good and feeds your soul, other than eating (the ‘bad’ stuff - in excess - when not hungry).
Jessa's Creative Act of Weight Loss: I've discovered that my stomach often tries to trick me into thinking I'm hungry. So every time I *think* I'm hungry, I make myself sing and dance around like a loon to at least three upbeat, feel-good songs. Usually by the second song I'm so pumped and in such a good mood that, if I still really am hungry, it's for something light and fresh like fruits or veggies.
What creative act of weight loss have you committed? Write me!

"When I called on Janice, I had been stuck at the same weight for close to three months. I had reached that plateau that many reach, where one loses their footing on the road to healthy weight loss. Allowing myself to take a long three month break from my diet when Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled around and I got off track. During the 4 weeks that I worked with Janice, I lost 7 pounds and since then, have been much better adhering to my weight loss plan. Things make sense again. I felt supported, listened to, and encouraged by our four talks. It was a gift to myself speaking to Janice and I recommend her coaching to anyone who wants more support and guidance and help." ~ Rosemary R., Greenwich Village
