Weighty Confession
Forgive Me for I Have Sinned
Bless me Father (Mother) for I have sinned ... I went to a Pennsylvania Dutch Market right before closing time. I was hungry and thought I would get a warm, soft pretzel (bad enough) but they handed me two (they sell two for the price of one at closing time)! I ate both of them (I couldn't let it go to waste, could I? After all, there are starving children in the world).

Motivational Musing
The Bathroom: No-Food Zone, Meditation Center, Art Gallery!
Bathrooms are an excellent place to escape to and find peace in.
A Natural No-Food Zone
Obsessed with food? Cant stop thinking about it? Go straight to the bathroom! Do not pass go. Generally speaking, you wont find a refrigerator in a bathroom (if yours has one, you better rethink your weight loss strategy and write me for help.) Nor will you be tempted to bring a burger and fries into the shower or bath with you. Think about it!
Meditation Center. Light Your Incense and say Ommmmmm!
Turn the top of your toilet into an altar. Light a candle or two, some incense, place a small vase of flowers on it, and while youre soaking in your food-free tub, say Ommmmmmm.
Art Gallery Extraordinare! Let your funky side out!! Hang a picture or two; place a sculpture in the corner. If youve got wall space, cover it with your creations, your kids or your friends'. Put a suggested donation box for those who visit your art gallery! And if you want to take it a step farther, file for museum status and charge admission!
Weight Loss is a Creative Act!
Thing outside of the tub!
More tips on how to jazz up your bathroom:
1. Paint it black. Use chalkboard paint on one or more walls; get some colored chalk and write notes, make pictures and change as often as you like.
2. Add fringe to your towels.
3. Put up a small shelf to showcase your cheesy shot glass collection (from every airport across the country).
4. If you have natural light, add some greenery! Plants galore.
5.To minimize water damage to your art, be sure to use archival mats and seal your frames carefully. That should do it!

Chewing the Fat

Dear OLofWL ~ I love the tip from Karen about the capris in last week's Kick. I, too, place a one size smaller outfit on the outside of my closet door and look at it each day. The first jacket I placed there was one that my younger sister left for me when she visited in November '06. I love the beautiful Chico's silk glittery top, but it was much tooooooo small for me to wear. Each month I would try it on..... and now I've lost 47 lbs.! I had to purchase an entire new wardrobe, but one of my favorites will always be the jacket my sister left for me.
Thank you for the "kick in the tush" club and thanks to my baby sister, Joanna for her quiet, subtle and gentle encouragement. ~ Sincerely, Anita
Dear Anita ~ Congratulations on permanently removing 47 lbs. Wow! That's amazing and it's quite beautiful that your sister was supportive and is a part of your success. Thank you for sharing our story. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ WOW! I guess I am pretty ill-mannered. I had no idea that I should be 10 minutes early. Guess I better print the etiquette list (from last week's Kick) and get better it better .... then maybe not! Love your letter and I keep on struggling but making slow progress. ~ Joyce
Dear Joyce ~ You're perfect just as you are! Truly, I think I'd rather be fashionably late than polite! Slow progress is PROGRESS. Keep moving into the 'lite.' ... Thanks for your note! ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ My husband, sister, brother and I tend to embarrass ourselves and talk about farting. It infuriates my husband's parents to no end that all us "kids" talk about it! ~ Jackie - Proud Mom to Tatiana
Dear Jackie ~ Your email is too funny! Bathroom humor (of sorts) is always appreciated and good table manners! Thanks for the laugh. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ I wanted to thank you for the free consultation you had with me yesterday in honor of National Nutrition Month. It was a pleasure talking with you and last night, as I reminisced the day, I started to feel bad thinking about the friends I attempted to contact but had not returned my calls. Then I remembered my consultation with you and was able to feel calm, disregard my emptiness, and smile about an overall good day. It's very kind of you to offer free consultations this month (I have not heard of anyone else doing it) and I am very happy to have been able to take advantage of it. Have a wonderful March! -Trish
Dear Trish ~ It was my pleasure! Truly, you are a thoughtful person and I admire your resolve to make your life the best it can be. It is so important that we focus on what we have. In all likelihood, it far outweighs (HA) what we perceive as lacking. Of all the journal keeping that one can do - food, exercise, life, et al, - a say that writing 5 things down each and every night before you go to bed that you are grateful for will have a profound affect on you.
If anyone else would like to sign up for a free consultation, there's still time. Write me. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ With regard to last week's Kick - two things!
1) the salmon burgers are delicious if made with canned salmon which is usually WILD Atlantic salmon.
2) ill-manners: I had students who insisted on leaving the room to blow their nose. YIKES!!!! I could lose half the class for such silliness. Have a great day. ~ tz
Dear tz ~ Your students are very funny and inventive. Creative way to get out of class! Thanks for the salmon tip. Will definitely try it! ~ OLofWL

Creative Acts of Weight Loss
What is a creative act of weight loss?
Its ANYTHING that you do that feels good and feeds your soul, other than eating (the bad stuff - in excess - when not hungry).
Janell's Creative Act of Weight Loss: I find if I brush and floss in the later afternoon (after dinner), I'm less likely to eat anything at night...cos I HATE FLOSSING!!!! It has stopped all those munchies while I watch tv.
Wow! Would sure love to see some photos of your work! Sounds amazing and way longer lasting than a box of cookies and extraordinarily fulfilling!
What creative act of weight loss have you committed? Write me!

"When I called on Janice, I had been stuck at the same weight for close to three months. I had reached that plateau that many reach, where one loses their footing on the road to healthy weight loss. Allowing myself to take a long three month break from my diet when Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled around and I got off track. During the 4 weeks that I worked with Janice, I lost 7 pounds and since then, have been much better adhering to my weight loss plan. Things make sense again. I felt supported, listened to, and encouraged by our four talks. It was a gift to myself speaking to Janice and I recommend her coaching to anyone who wants more support and guidance and help." ~ Rosemary R., Greenwich Village
