Motivational Musing
SURE FIRE WAYS TO MELT THE FAT AWAY!
EAT LIKE A GOURMET
Take the time to roll the food from the front of the tongue to the back of the tongue and from side to side in order to obtain every ounce of satisfaction and the ‘most mileage’ out of each morsel and bite that you take.
By doing this you will more readily satisfy the thousands of taste cells (9,000 more or less!) that are located all over your tongue and, as a result, less food will be required and your caloric intake will be immeasurably curtailed. The appetite control center in the hypothalamus will be sated!
SILENT EATING
Sit quietly and be with your food. Eat slowly. Savor each bite. Taste it. Experience it. Imagine its journey; how did it get to your plate? How far has it traveled? How many people were involved in your meal?
SMALL PLATES
Small portions on small plates – you will enjoy a small portion on a small plate much more than a large portion. And you really will, because you won’t have to feel guilty about the small portion. You will be perfectly delighted with it.
THIN THOUGHTS to keep you FOREVER THIN
Keep an image uppermost in your mind of how you might look or feel at your ideal weight. Zero in on your own good points. Your smile, eyes, hands … Embrace and like yourself.

Hi OLofWL ~ I think your newsletter is hysterical. A great resource written in a really fun and accessible way! I loved all the motivational testimonials, etc. ... AND I beg of you to reconsider your stance on hot dogs and turkey crumble/etc. as there's absolutely nothing good about them for people, animals, or the planet. I could go on and on about the global effect of the hot dog, but I'm sure you're aware. Isn't the key to any healthful lifestyle to eat unrefined, whole foods with maximum nutrient content...? Just my two cents to rethink the hot dog and maybe post a retraction... (SoyBoy, Lightlife, Yves, and Tofurkey all make excellent soy/seitan based 'hot dogs' with no fat, about 45 calories, and much more natural ingredients... if you need to eat something in that shape. ~ Thanks, Kerry

Hey there, OLofWL! ~ HOTDOG recipes!?! YICK! You are too spiritual to put bi-products and "variety meats" (snouts, ground up bone, liver, teeth, ears, etc), feces, anti-biotics, and coloring in your 'temples' (bodies) and that's precisely what's in a hot dog! Not dogs or tofu dogs are just as yummy, guilt free, and less than 50 calories each! If your ladies are interested in what a hot dog really is – (denial is not a river in Egypt) check out www.meetyourmeat.com. Animal protein contributes to heart disease, cancer, acne, asthma, allergies, Crohn's disease, arthritis, Alzheimers, and multiple sclerosis. In fact, vegetarians and vegans have a 97% less chance of cancer – those are BIG numbers. A recent Government study showed hot dogs contain DNA-mutating compounds that cause cancer. Chew on that. Respectfully, Chloe Jo Berman NYC – www.chloejo.com

Chewing the Fat
Dear OLofWL ~ I went to the gym last week and worked-out hard for abour half an hour and then went on the treadmill for a nice walk. I was burning calories and getting my heart rate up and then ... I blew out my knee. Guess I did too much! I was on a roll, feeling good and now I'm in pain, tired and have to go see a doctor. It seems like there is always something that keeps me from reaching my weight loss goal! Do I sabotage myself? I was looking back at pictures, and since I've had my 2 kids...a long, long time ago, I can't seem to get to my goal. I'll do great for a while, and then I seem to give up or hurt myself. I feel so frustrated right now and down. I really wanted to lose 30 lbs by July...big family reunion. Is it still possible??? How do I get there. I love how you do your life. How do you stay focused? ~ A Little Down
Dear A Little Down ~ Seems to me you are in a bit of a funk and need a little attitudinal adjustment and perhaps a gentle kick in the tush. So here goes. First of all, never look back! You are moving toward your compelling future. That's right ... FUTURE. A new YOU! The best YOU ever. The NOW and the future is where it's at! Make a commitment to yourself to eat healthfully, stay within a 1200 to 1500 calorie per day range, and come July you will have lost a bunch of pounds. It's about energy! You'll be aglow at that family reunion. Everyone will have to wear sunglasses!
I stay motivated because I truly understand that the weight loss is not the big prize. If it were, we all would have lost weight and kept it off. The BIG prize is that at the end of the day, I am not spending my time berating myself. Quite the opposite. The BIG prize is that I like myself. The 55 pounds I permanently removed close to 6 years ago is actually a secondary gain. (I like that. Weight Loss is a Secondary Gain.) I like liking myself. There's no piece of cake that is worth it. There's not enough space to write about it. It's in my book, though! I hope you are a little up now. Feel free to write again. We are all here for you. Cheering you on - rootin' for you! ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ It took me a year to take off 40 lbs., and I was keeping it off. I eat for comfort and am a compulsive eater. I was doing great not bingeing, but due to family problems I gained 10lbs. I seem not to be able to stop the compulsive eating, and I am afraid I will gain back all the weight. I eat for comfort, and I am a compulsive eater. Help! ~ Linda, from PA
Dear Linda ~ I would need to know quite a bit more about you to be able to effectively get in there with you and untangle what's going on. Nevertheless, I did notice that you wrote, "I eat for comfort; I am a compulsive eater." It is important that you now change the way that you think of yourself. It is as important as changing your eating habits. Starting now, you can start a new way. A new way of thinking first. The rest will follow. I do hope that was helpful. Feel free to write and give me more details! ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ Referencing last week's Kick, when I was in college I had a professor for creative writing that had us do this type of writing at the start of each class. She called it 'free writing.' We had to keep our writings in a notebook, and that is what we pulled topics from for our writing that semester. Haven't done it in forever, but maybe it's time to start again. It has walked me through tough times through out my life. I'm getting that pen and tablet out again to work through this current jumble that is now my life. Thanks for reminding me of this great tool. ~ TF
Dear TF ~ Writing is an amazing tool and a Creative Act of Weight Loss. You can definitely write those pounds away. Get the feelings down on paper! Bravo! ~ OLofWL

Creative Acts of Weight Loss
What is a creative act of weight loss?
It’s ANYTHING that you do that feels good and feeds your soul, other than eating (the ‘bad’ stuff - in excess - when not hungry).
My Creative Act of Weight Loss is to Hand Quilt. I love doing it....I had never thought about it being a way of weight loss. But it keeps my hands busy and as long as I am sitting in that chair I can't get up to snack on something. I love crafts and creating things with my own hands. ~ Connie N. fro Kearney, NE

"When I called on Janice, I had been stuck at the same weight for close to three months. I had reached that plateau that many reach, where one loses their footing on the road to healthy weight loss. Allowing myself to take a long three month break from my diet when Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled around and I got off track. During the 4 weeks that I worked with Janice, I lost 7 pounds and since then, have been much better adhering to my weight loss plan. Things make sense again. I felt supported, listened to, and encouraged by our four talks. It was a gift to myself speaking to Janice and I recommend her coaching to anyone who wants more support and guidance and help." ~ Rosemary R., Greenwich Village
"Janice Taylor has been a truly inspirational weight loss coach. Through her creative insight I have found my "artists' soul", making the journey to my new lifestyle fulfilling and utterly satisfying. And I permanently removed over 40 pounds of excess weight! " L~ Brooklyn. NY
