'Ringo' Ebadi
Pet of the Month
Hi, my name is “Ringo” and I’m a one-year-old Dachshund. My mom says I’m special because I am the most compassionate dog and whenever she is sad I am right by her side. I love to chew and play with my mom’s guinea pig. Don’t tell Dr. Lutz or Dr. Wood, but my favorite treat is any kind of steak. My mom loves me so much she gives me everything I want and lets me sleep in the bed at night
with her.

Pets & Disasters
Why You Should Be Prepared
As hurricane season approaches, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind pet owners of the importance of being prepared; disasters can strike anywhere, anytime.
The single most important thing you can do to protect your pets if you evacuate, is to take them with you. If it’s not safe for you to stay in the disaster area, it’s not safe for your pets. Most shelters don’t allow pets, so you should plan ahead to be sure that your family and pets have a safe place to stay. We at Largo Veterinary Hospital evacuate as well. There are 3 shelters in Pinellas Country that do allow pets, but space is limited and they do require preregistration at www.pinellascounty.org/animalservices. Information on pet friendly lodgings can also be found at www.petswelcome.com.
Identification tags are recommended, but they are at risk of being lost if the collar is torn off. Microchipping is permanent pet identification is a proven way to successfully have your pet returned to you.
Pet Evacuation Kits Should Include:
- Microchip information
- Collars, tags and sturdy leash
- Medications
- Medical & vaccination records,
current photo
- Food & water (minimum 5 day supply)
- Pet carrier or crate
- Cat litter, scoop and pan
- Plastic bags for waste & paper towels
for messes
- Muzzle, if necessary
- Mark all belongings with identification
