'Casey' Nichols
Pet of the Month
Hi, I’m “Casey”, a 12-year-old, short haired kitty and I’m LVH’s Pet-of-the-Month. I’ve had a history of stones in my bladder that caused me to have problems urinating. I even had to have a surgery called urethrostomy that gave me a “new” way of urinating, but now I am on a special diet and doing well. When I first moved to my new home, there were these glass doors that I couldn’t seem to see. I just kept running into them until my Mom and Dad put butterfly stickers on the doors. My home is my kingdom. I even have my own door to the screened porch and some step stools so I don’t have to jump too high.

Leptospirosis: Can Affect You & Your Pets
You may have noticed that in the past year, we have resumed using distemper vaccines for dogs that contain Leptospirosis.
Leptospirosis, or Lepto, is a bacteria that is transmitted to dogs through the urine of wild animals such as raccoons, opossums, squirrels and rodents. Dogs can become infected by coming in contact with infected urine deposits or by drinking or playing in urine contaminated water. Lepto can cause acute renal failure in dogs and can be fatal if untreated. More importantly Lepto is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can be spread to humans from infected animals. Humans experience similar symptoms, and it is just as life threatening.
Because the incidence rate of Lepto in the Pinellas county area has been on the rise, we are recommending annual vaccinations for all dogs that spend time outdoors. If your pet is exhibiting any symptoms please call us immediately at 727-584-8370 to schedule a physical examination.
