Weighty Confession
Forgive Me for I Have Sinned
A new bakery opened in my neighborhood. It's name - Rustika!
Don't you agree that sounds like a shop with whole
grain healthy bread? I went inside "just to check it out"
and emerged 2 minutes later with the biggest chocolate
cookie you have ever seen. Nice and chewy, real chocolate
and big as a sandwich plate. OUCH!!!!
All Is Forgiven. Move On.

Motivational Musing
The Saddest Day ~ Did you know that January 24th is considered the most depressing, saddest, miserable day of the year?
Why? The dark days of winter are compounded by dreadful weather, holiday debt, vanishing holiday recollections, botched and futile resolutions culminating in lack of inspiration and enthusiasm.
What to do to beat the blues? Some say to exercise and read up on depression. Our Lady of Weight Loss suggests that you Set your priority compass.
In case you havent noticed, there are only 24 hours to the day, and if youre like me, youre spending at least one-third of those hours in bed. Devote your time to something that makes good use of each and every moment something that supports you as you move towards making your dreams your reality.
In other words, if family relationships are your priority, and there arent enough hours in the day to iron and take your children to the movies, then either wear wrinkly clothes or send your laundry out!
If permanent fat removal is your goal, set time aside to plan your week and read Our Lady of Weight Loss: Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal (A colorful, quirky and inspirational book is every there was one! She is the BEST cheerleader; she does not disappoint.).
Think long and hard about what truly matters and devote your time to that.
What most matters to you? (There is no right or wrong answer.) Write me!

Righteous Recipe
Black Bean and Yellow Corn Salad (a 1960's color combo!) ~ From KICK member -in-great-standing Peg Grady! "Here's a salad I throw together frequently...my kind of cooking....just toss it all in a bowl and eat."
Ingredients: 15 oz. can of black beans, drained * 1 bag of frozen corn (I like Trader Joe's extra sweet [but of course] organic) * container of fresh salsa (hot and garlicky is my favorite, but your choice)
Instructions: Throw all ingredients in a pretty bowl * handful of cilantro, chopped * put most in the bowl and stir, sprinkle some on top.
Send in your healthy Righteous Recipes! Win a prize!! (see above Give Away)
Create your own cookbook! How cool is that?

Chewing the Fat
Dear OLofWL~ There are four of us planning an in-home spa week in February. Rather than spend the big bucks to go somewhere, we are trying a Do it yourself version. We all live in a gated community where we have walking trails, a work out facility, scheduled work our and exercise classes. My husband has agreed to be our cook for the week, limiting calories and carbs. Any suggestions? ~ Charlotte H., Wilmington, NC
Dear Charlotte ~ What fun! Yes, I have suggestions. First, clone your husband!!! How sweet. And in addition to walking, working out and exercising, how about swapping righteous recipes and having a night of facials. Slice up cucumbers and put them on your eyes. Lovely! Whip up an egg white and make facial masks. Or mash a cantaloupe in a bowl. Apply to face and neck; leave 20 minutes; rinse with warm water! You can lick your lips if you like. Delightful! Make weight loss arts & crafts. tapeMeasure bracelets are always a BIG hit. We made them at the Crossings workshop and everyone loved them! Oh, you Carolina girls know how to live! ~ OLofWL
***
Dear OLofWL ~ I read a chapter of your book each morning before work along with my daily writing and - praise be - I am beginning to see some of the "humor" that was missing with my struggle to lose 20 lbs. I am at my gym at 6 AM each morning (I miss my night owl - such a pretty, fun bird!) Love the book and the collages are so cool. What a unique idea. I'm jealous I didn't think of it first! :) ~ Elizabeth C., England
Dear Elizabeth ~ You are funny - the night owl IS a pretty bird! Glad you are enjoying the book! No need to be jealous. Make art and send it to me (via email)! I'm compiling Kick Club members weighty confessions, letters, creative acts of weight loss and art for the next book. I'd be honored if you'd be a part of it. (That goes for the rest of you, too. I'm always looking for someone to play with. Come on out, and play!) ~ OLofWL
***
Dear OLofWL ~ I enjoyed reading last week's Motivational Musing: the History of Dieting. I'm not sure if this is my first dieting story, but I always loved to eat and I can remember wishing on eyelids (remember that!!) when I was maybe 4 or 5 years old and what I wanted the most was a fast metabolism!!! I recently lost close to 30 pounds. I'm thin now! - Janet R., SC
Dear Janet ~ Thanks for sharing your sweet childhood remembrance wishing on eyelids. I do remember wishing on eyelids, stars, and praying to the statues of the BVM asking to wake up thin and for go go boots! Well,it took us a bunch of years, but we're waking up thin now! Keep up the good work.~ OLofWL

Creative Acts of Weight Loss
What is a creative act of weight loss?
Its ANYTHING that you do that feels good and feeds your soul, other than eating (the bad stuff - in excess - when not hungry).
JAM to the beat of Metallica! ... submitted by KITT Club Member Joanne C., Placerville. CA
I'm not a teenager... (67 years young) AND I love jamming to Metallica or ZZTop! When my hands are drumming, they're not reaching for cookies. In fact, they are the farthest thing fro my mind.
