Thank you so much for your involvement with BVGT (Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented), our recently formed affiliate group of the Colorado Association of Gifted and Talented.
This newsletter contains a "sneak preview" of some of the topics and programs that we have planned for the coming school year! Please let us know if you have ideas to share or if you would like to volunteer for a committee. We welcome your feedback and your full participation!
We hope that your summer has been both restful and rejuvenating! Please see below for an invitation to our first-ever BVGT Summer Picnic on August 10 -- hope to see you there!

BVGT Summer Picnic
Date: Sunday, August 10
Time: 4:00 PM
Location: North Boulder Park (9th & Dellwood)
Join us for an afternoon of fun, family, and meeting new friends! Please bring your own table service (plates, napkins, utensils), beverages, plus a potluck dish to share. We'll relax and get to know each other as we enjoy good food and savor one of the last days of summer vacation before we enter a brand new school year!
All ages are welcome! Feel free to bring balls, frisbees, or other outdoor toys.

Save the Date: Gloria Frender Presentation
Date: Tuesday, October 7
Time: 7:00-8:30 PM
Get your kids "back-to-school" on the right foot with our first BVGT presentation of the school year, entitled "How Parents Can Help At Home: Great practical time management and organization skills for your child" presented by Gloria Frender.
"Learning to learn" is the most important skill we can acquire. In sharing these vital skills with parents, teachers, and students, Gloria Frender teaches successful study/learning techniques. Through a positive and encouraging atmosphere, numerous methods are presented with the goal of helping the student become more self-confident, effective and a truly independent learner.
As a resource person, Gloria is an enthusiastic, motivating presenter who brings creative, practical ideas across all content areas, levels and abilities to enhance vital lifelong learning.

Future BVGT Topics and Programs
Your BVGT Board Members have been busy planning an exciting array of programs for the coming school year! We are pleased to announce that BVGT will be hosting a presentation by Linda Silverman entitled "The Unique Emotional Lives of Gifted Youth" later this year. Other topics and programs for this year include "Friendships," "Profiles of the Gifted," Discussion Groups, and a Family Fun Event.

SENG
Boulder Valley Schools and Rocky Mountain School for Gifted and Creative offer Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) classes for parents of gifted children.
This is a seven- or ten-session series that engages parents in discussions of the social and emotional aspects of raising a gifted child. Recommended books are available for all who sign up. The fee varies, depending on which book is selected.
