Motivational Musing

Staying Motivated

A few KICK members, friends and even a family member confessed that their New Year’s resolve is fading.  What to do? How to stay motivated?  Ahhh … the $64 million question!

People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing -
that's why we recommend it daily.  ~ Zig Ziglar

There’s your answer!  Zig Ziglar said it best.  We have to renew our enthusiasm, motivation, Joie de Vie on a daily basis!  I sip my morning coffee and think about where I’m going, how I’m getting there, and then I read something that fires me up and carries me through the day.  (Once in awhile it’s something I wrote!  Major thrill that day.)

Our Lady of Weight Loss’s Motivational and Inspirational Tips
Sure to Light Your Fire … Into the ‘Lite'

Have a Vision.
The root of the word motivation is “motive.”  The definition of “motive” is “A reason to act.”  You need a reason to act.  You need both an external and internal vision of the new you. You need to be moving towards a compelling future! What’s your reason to act?

Be Passionate.
Motivation is not task driven.  It’s all about emotion. It’s fire driven.  You’ve got to fuel your passion (just like you have to fuel your body and fuel your car!). You have to set yourself a goal that connects to an all consuming desire.  What moves you?

Stay Focused.
The more focused you are the more results you’ll be getting. The more results, the more motivated.  It’s called the ‘upward spiral.’ Don’t worry about getting dizzy. You’re getting lighter and lighter. Keep on spiraling, Up, UP, UP!!

Build on Your Successes.
If you permanently remove a pound, be proud.  When you drop a size, get fired up.  Woo hoo!  Keep on going!

Acknowledge All that You Do Well.
We have a tendency to negate our wins by focusing on the minor slips of the day.  If you said “No, thank you” four times. “ Rejoice. What else did you do today that was stupendous?  (It could be as simple as filling up a bowl with fresh fruit for the kitchen counter.  Filling the room with good energy.)

Positive Messages.
Read positive books, listen to good music, anything with a positive message. Fill your brain with stories of successful people.  It will take hold.  (Without question, do not watch the news before you go to bed.) Think positive!

Speaking of big time motivation and living la vida positive, check out Our Lady of Weight Loss: Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal. Our Lady of Weight Loss is your BEST friend; an awesome companion!  Join her on the 'lite' side.

AND ... one more thing ... be sure to scroll down and read todays' Inspired and Inspiring.  I just love the poem.

Righteous Recipe

Positively Delicious and Piously Grand Pears
2 large ripe pears * 1/2 cup white wine * 1 tablespoon sugar * 2 teaspoons cinnamon * 1 teaspoon nutmeg; freshly grated.  (Use a tiny garlic grater and whole nutmeg. The smell alone make it worth the effort.)

Instructions:

Spray your a baking dish with non-stick cooking spray (Make sure it's okay to place it on the grill. I tend not to pay attention to these types of instructions and end up sorry!) Cut pears in half from the top and remove seed. Place face down in baking dish and cover with remaining ingredients. Cover and place on preheated grill for about 15 minutes. One big healthy YUM ... all together, please!

In addition try Cheryl M.'s Mock egg foo yung. Cheryl is a member in good-standing and reign supreme in Troy, MI.  Thanks, Cheryl!

Mix 1/4 c. egg replacement, a dash of light soy sauce and about 1/2 cup of cooked spaghetti squash in a small microwaveable bowl. (I love this squash!! I cook one up every week that I can find it at the market and stash it in the fridge to use for my fake egg foo yung, linguine, etc.) Microwave in 30 second increments until the mixture is set. A little water from the squash may accumulate at the bottom of the bowl, but that can be poured off. Depending on my mood, I may top off the cooked patty with a splash of Frank's Red Hot sauce or additional soy sauce. Yummy!

Chewing the Fat

Dear OLofWL ~ Regarding last week's Kick, I do not find January 24th the saddest day of the year.  It is the day of my birth and I find that extremely happy.  So lighten up on all of us who were born that day.  Why pick one sad day?  The day my Mom died and the day my best friend died are the saddest day for me.  Keep up your inspirational talk but don't pick on one day in the year.  Everyday is great, we are alive, we live in a great country, we have choices. Sincerely, Martha A.

Dear Martha ~ Happy Birthday!!!!  And to the rest of you who were celebrating something happy on January 24, I apologize for mentioning that it was the saddest day of the year.  Anyway, Martha, you sure kicked my tush!  Thanks! I loved it!  Controversy is good.  Yes, every day is a great day. Thanks for spreading love and light in this direction. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ It troubles me to read that January 24th is considered the saddest day of the year.  Each and every day is a 24 hour gift to do with as we please...we have a choice to make it sad or we can make it the very best day of our lives.  January is a month to make plans for the future, to make plans to better ourselves throughout the year. Snow days of January are great for organizing our homes, to simplify our lives and get rid of the accumulated junk left over from the holidays....clean sweep month! If we plan our finances and impulsive spending of the holidays, January can be a month of being proud that we live within our means and that we can move forward into the new year with $$$ still in the bank.  I guess what I am trying to say is, we are in charge of our own being....we determine our own level of "misery" and January can be a month for renewed celebration that we have been giving.  If one is clinically depressed that is a totally different situation and needs medical attention....but to blame 24January!!!!!  Get up and smell the roses....stop feeling sorry for yourself and take change of your finances, and if your resolutions have fallen by the way side...reconsider your plans and make resolutions that are realistic.  Always remember, "all is forgiven..." stop beating yourself up and move forward.....the past is in the past and we have this beautiful day, 24January to better ourselves and the world around us.....

HAPPY 24 JANUARY EVERYONE!!!!!  If it snows, go make snow angels, come in for some sugar fee, fat free hot cocoa, read a great book, do some yoga, shovel the walkway (great exercise) and be grateful that you have been given this wonderful day and CELEBRATE!!!!!! Fondly, Anita

PS I have now lost 38lbs. and lost 6 of them over the holidays!!!!  We are in change...so take the bull by his horns!!!!!!!!

Dear Anita ~ Congratulations on permanently removing 38 pounds of excess weight! BRAVO and kudos for managing the holidaze so well.  Next year, you'll have to send us your tips in November.  You sure did something right.  And thanks to you too for kickin' my tush.  Yes, you are right.  It's all what you make it.  ~ OLofWL

Creative Acts of Weight Loss

What is a creative act of weight loss?
It’s ANYTHING that you do that feels good and feeds your soul, other than eating (the ‘bad’ stuff - in excess - when not hungry).

Reading about last week's Creative Act of Weight Loss - jamming to Metallica reminds me...

I HATE exercise and I HATE to cook.  But I LOVE to DANCE.  It's too cold and rainy to go and walk now, so I've started clipping on my iPod to prepare dinner and boogying around my kitchen while I prepare it.  Afterwards, I feel as good as I used to after my three glasses of wine (back to back).  I've reassessed my alcohol consumption, improved my physical condition and changed a task I've long hated into something I look forward to now! ~ Karen

Bravo!  I have my iPod all loaded for walking music!  Never occurred to use it for dance, cooking, vacuuming, whatever!  Thanks Karen, for crackin' open my mind just a bit further than already cracked!

True Joy of Life

This is the true joy of life.
The being used for a purpose.
Recognized by yourself as a mighty one.
The being a force of nature
Instead of a feverish, selfish
Little clod of ailments and grievances
Complaining that the world will not
Devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life,
Belongs to the whole community
And as long as I live,
It is my privilege to do for it
Whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly
Used up when I die,
For the harder I work the more I live.
I rejoice in life for its own sake.
Life is no brief candle to me.
It is a sort of splendid torch
Which I've got hold of
For the moment
And I want to make it burn
As brightly as possible before
Handling it on to future generations

George Bernard Shaw
