Weighty Confession
Forgive Me for I Have Sinned
I lied to myself, as I ate a large amount of the greasy, salty stuff Christmas night. "Chex mix is mainly whole grains and healthy nuts." (Yeah, right!) I took the rest to work to pawn off on my coworkers, although not many were there to eat it. So I sat, snacking on large handfuls of the mix every half hour, all day. At last - I had to do something! It took courage, but I managed to throw away the last few portions, and stuck an apple core - like an exclamation point - on the top of the bag so I couldn't even think of fishing it out of the trash later like a madwoman...

Motivational Musing
Resolution Time! After deep thought and painful introspection, here follows my Top Ten Resolutions for 2007.
1. To stop comparing myself to starlets who are twenty years old.
2. To stop thinking about dinner while I’m still eating lunch.
3. To stand on the scales of injustice without going postal.
4. To stop feeling sorry for myself. Having a fat tush isn’t the worst fate (is it?).
5. To stop blaming the dry cleaners for my pants being tight.
6. To stop buying the Twinkies for the kids (I confess, they’re for me).
7. To stop beating myself up for each and every food transgression, large or small.
8. To stop saying incredulously, “but I only had one spoonful” when I know full well the spoon I used was a ladle.
9. To stop looking for a magic bullet in the form of a pill.
10. To just plain STOP.

Righteous Recipe
Perfectly and Piously Poached Figs - A festive way to start the New Year! And proof positive that there is a bounty of fabulous food for us to eat.
Ingredients:
Dried figs (about 1 cup)
Sweet wine (about 1/2 cup)
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup part-skim ricotta
1 teaspoon sugar (your choice real, fake, a blend or otherwise)
1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions: Combine figs, wine and honey in small saucepan. Bring to boil, reduce to simmer, stirring here and there until the figs are soft and the wine syrupy (mmmmmmm). (About 20 minutes or so.) * While simmering, in a small bowl, mix together the ricotta, sugar and vanilla. You only need a smidgen of both. Divide mixture into four cups (4 servings) and top with fig mixture!
It's great warm. But I had some leftover and put it in the fridge and enjoyed it equally the next day. While some eat this as a dessert, I had it for lunch (fruit, protein and wine - well balanced I thought!).
Send in your healthy Righteous Recipes! Win a prize!! (see above GiveAway)

Chewing the Fat
Dear OL of WL ~ I need to reduce, says my doctor - to 145 #. I am hoping to lose my last 6# by March. Why is such a small amount soooo hard? I know that you 'permanently removed' (as you would say) over 50 pounds. Were the last couple of pounds difficult? ~ Kate, St. Paul, MN
Dear Kate ~ The first 40 pounds came off without too much difficulty. Then I hit a plateau!!! Big time. So I said to myself, "You look great. 40 pounds is amazing. Go on maintenance." As soon as I did, the next 10 pounds drizzled off. Very slowly. The less we weigh, the less calories we need. Now, as for your six pounds by March! That would be two pounds a month. Or approx. 1/2 a pound a week. Which would mean reducing your calorie intake by 1750 per week; or 250 per day. Or an increase of activity equal to 250 calories; or a combination of both.
Hmmmm ... no wonder it takes time to permanently remove those extra pounds!!! We'd all like to wave a magic wand and it be gone! I think it's the patience that's difficult. Keep on your path. Whether it's March, April or May, those last six pounds will be forever gone! ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ A couple of weeks ago, I was feeling low, so I ordered Our Lady of Weight Loss (the book) on Amazon as a Christmas present from me TO me. I received it this week and have nearly finished reading it. I LOVE it. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
The point that hit home the most was the chapter on Willpower vs Want Power. No one had ever explained it in that way before, and I had such an epiphany. After years of beating myself up for not having any willpower, finally, a solution that makes sense and is practical. It's not about what you will, it's about what you want. If we WANT it enough, and take the action to get what we want, then it WILL happen. My daughters and I are going shopping for Our Lady Macaroni Altar supplies this week! Thanks for the inspiration ~ Christy
Dear Christy ~ You got it!!! There ain't no such thing as willpower. Glad you're making macaroni altars instead of beating yourself up. Much better way to spend your time! Keep up the good work. We're cheering for you. And Thank YOU for your support. Greatly appreciated. ~ OLofWL
