OAC PROGRAM FUNDING HIATUS AND CHANGES IN COMMUNICATION

Due to the extreme economic situation in the state and nation, there have been continued reductions to the OAC’s budget. As a result the OAC needed to stretch its limited state funding, maintain services to the field and manage program activities after a 47 percent reduction in the OAC grant budget and a 40 percent reduction in OAC staffing from the beginning of the 2008/2009 biennium. The short-term solution is to place some programs on hiatus during the current biennium.

Capacity Building and International Partnerships are on hiatus for the current fiscal year 2010 (which began July 1, 2009 and ends June 30, 2010).  Capacity Building applications will be accepted again in FY2011 (July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011) and the online application will re-open for this program on June 1, 2010. The Arts Innovation program and the International Partnership program will be on hiatus through FY2011.

The Arts Access program will continue providing both operating and project support funding for small and emerging organizations as specified in the program's guidelines, but will accept applications at only the March 1, 2010 deadline rather than at both a spring and fall deadline as in recent years.

For more information about this announcement visit the press release or visit the OAC staff directory at www.oac.state.oh.us/aboutOAC/staff.asp for the appropriate staff contact for questions.

In addition ArtsOhio will once again be a bi-monthly newsletter starting with this issue. The PIO office will continue to use e-notices to communicate information and news in a timely fashion and on an as-needed basis.

OHIO ARTS COUNCIL TO VISIT COLUMBUS FOR LISTENING TOUR
LTImageThe Ohio Arts Council (OAC) is hitting the road again this fall to find out what Ohioans alue about their communities, creativity and the arts. The OAC’s Listening Tour is traveling to seven more communities this fall and winter discovering what creativity means to elected officials, arts professionals and citizens in large and small communities across the state.  Columbus will be the next stop with a visit on December 10, 2009.

“We have seen dramatic changes in the economic environment in the past year.  These changes have had a profound impact on the citizens of Ohio and the arts and cultural organizations that serve them,” said OAC Executive Director Julie Henahan.  “We want to hear what role Ohio’s citizens think the arts and creativity should play in their community.  What we learn during this tour will help us re-envision the OAC’s role in serving Ohioans.”

A small group of staff from the OAC will lead three meetings in Columbus on December 10 to discuss what citizens feel makes their community vital and what their aspirations are for the future. During the morning meeting OAC staff members will have a conversation with elected officials and community leaders; the afternoon meeting will be held with members of the arts community and educators; and the evening town hall will bring people from all backgrounds together to discuss the arts and its impact in their community.

Register for one or all of the Columbus meetings at http://www.oac.state.oh.us/events/ViewPublicEvent.asp?ID=208
