FWA Hosts Microfinance Symposium at the United Nations
Left to right: FWA Past President, Betsy Werley; TIAW Microenterprise Program Chair, Patricia Foley Hinnen; FWA Executive Director, Nancy Sellars; Lenore Albom's sister and FWA member, Barbara Albom; FWA President-Elect, Judy Mellars.
The threat of a serious blizzard could not keep more than 150 attendees from the day-long Microfinance Symposium hosted by the Financial Women’s Association (“FWA”). The very substantive and interesting program was held at the awe-inspiring United Nations building on Saturday, January 22. FWA is one of the longest-tenured networks of TIAW.
FWA’s program coincided with the UN's January launch of the "Year of Microcredit" and also commemorated Lenore Albom, an early champion of microcredit programs. Lenore was an FWA Past President and a TIAW Treasurer. It was a preparatory event to FWA’s international conference in the Dominican Republic, taking place in March, which will include visits with ADOPEM (a microfinance institution) and with DR women who will receive microcredit loans from an FWA fund of contributions made in Lenore’s memory.
