Weighty Confession
Forgive Me for I Have Sinned
I downed so many dogs in quick succession at my friend's annual Labor Day BBQ that one of the other guests asked me if I was in training for the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Motivational Musing
As the tongue speaketh to the ear, so the gesture speaketh to the eye.” Francis Bacon (1561-1626) English philosopher and essayist, The Advancement of Learning
Our posture, gestures and facial expressions say more than our words.
Did you know that non-verbal communication makes up 93% of the messages we communicate to each other? That’s right - only 7% of our communication is verbal!
Here are some body language guidelines, some of which may seem obvious – like smiling is a friendly gesture (duh) – while other tips may be new information – like hiding ones hands is a sign that they are holding back, keeping something hidden!
He (she) likes me … Let’s say that you are talking to someone and they are nodding, with their head tilted toward you, leaning in, gazing directly into your eyes and stroking their chin. Woo Hoo, you’ve hit the jackpot. This person is totally into you. They are agreeing, enjoying, listening and focused entirely on what you have to say.
He likes me not … Should they squint or return your gaze in a hard way, take that as a sign that they are harboring some ill feelings toward you.
Lies and more lies … If someone is rubbing or touching their face while talking to you, they may not be telling the truth. Other signs of untruths or repressed thoughts are expressed by the rubbing of the neck.
Uncomfortable, uneasy and unpleasant… When you see someone tapping their feet or fidgeting, or rocking back and forth, you can be sure that they are uncomfortable in some way, shape or form.
Feet pointed toward the door indicate that the person wants to leave!
If someone is scratching their head, they are not sure as to how to respond to whatever it is that you are saying. Rephrase, please!
In or out … Outstretched legs indicate that the person wants to dominate the conversation and be the center of attention. If someone is leaning away or stepping back, it is a sure sign that they are not interested. If they stand far away, they may be feeling threatened by you.
New Point of View: I am observing other people's body language (thus, shifting my attention away from the buffet table).
KITT Club Activity: Observe how you non-verbally communicate in the company of friends, family and co-workers. Observe how they non-verbally communicate. Any surprises? Write OLofWL

Righteous Recipe
Righteous Recipe ~ Oatmeal All-Day-Long from Mimi T. "Cooler weather will get here sooner than later. Here's a recipe that can serve as breakfast, lunch, snack or dessert. It tastes like a big oatmeal cookie or the topping on apple crisp. You get the goodness of the oatmeal and it so comforting served warm."
First ... Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 13 x 9 pan
Ingredients: 1c skim milk * 4 eggs * 2/3 c light brown sugar * 1/4 c soft canola margarine * 1/2 tsp salt * 2 tsp baking powder * 2 tsp cinnamon * 3 cups quick cooking oatmeal * Optional: walnuts, raisins, dried cranberries, chopped apple ~ up to 1/2 of one or combination if desired.
Instructions: Combine skim milk, eggs, brown sugar and margarine in large bowl. Mix well. Add the salt, baking powder, cinnamon and oatmeal. Stir well. Add the 1/2 cup of extras, if desired. Turn into the 13" x 9" pan, spreading out to edges. Bake at 350 for 30 - 40 minutes until brown around the edge. Top will spring back when touched. Serves 8 for breakfast or lunch. Some like to have it in a bowl with extra milk poured on top. Nice for a dessert, too.. with a delightful scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt. Mmmm!
One big YUM, MiMi! Thanks for this very special oatmeal recipe, which I am going to dish up and out at the next family sleepover! ~ OLofWL

Chewing the Fat
Dear OLofWL ~ Two years ago, I went through a divorce. It was a stressful time - so stressful that I couldn't eat, and I inadvertently lost weight - 50 lbs.!! Now that I am getting back on my feet, the weight is slowly returning. Five pounds here and there back on. HELP! ~ Houston G., VA.
Dear Houston ~ Even though divorce, upset, and stress are not the best way to remove those pounds, you did! You've jump-started yourself; given yourself a new place to begin. I know keeping the weight off is important to you. What steps will you take to keep moving forward? Now is your time! Go for it. Don't look back. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ Howdy! I write this as I bicycle in the gym (so forgive any typos)! I am in the process of shedding the last 10 pounds of 75 lbs total. and exercising is a big deal to me. I want to share my this morning's laugh. As I am spinning my bike wheels, I am thinking, "Oh good. I will not be able to exercise long this morning. I have an 8:30 root canal appointment." Arrgh! That is just sad! Oh well ... keep on keepin on! ~ RG in VA
Dear RG in VA ~ Thanks for the laugh. I'm betting many of us have had similar anti-exercise thoughts. The important thing is that you are, in the face of a root canal, spinning your bike wheels before your appointment and not foregoing it all together. Kudos for your commitment to your self and for having a sense of humor about the whole thing. Hope the root canal went well and you enjoyed your rest in the chair. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ I am 20 years old, about to enter my senior year of college and have managed to keep off 53 pounds over the last 8 months after being overweight my entire life. I still have about 30-35 pounds I'd like to lose, but I have no doubt in my mind that I'll be able to achieve that goal.
I just read your book, Our Lady of Weight Loss and absolutely LOVED it. I nodded my head at the first page of every chapter. Every topic you covered was exactly what women like us, who have struggled with their weight their whole lives, need to hear. From making decisions during the holidays, to learning about happiness and laughter, to being able to relate to women who need to super glue lids of peanut butter shut in order to not eat it! (I'm personally a fan of sabotaging my food at a restaurant so I won't pick at it after I'm full). Thanks for being there! ~ Pamela P., GA.
Dear Pamela ~ No if's, and's or but's about it - you will achieve your permanent fat removal goals, finish school with honors, and self e-STEAM* your way through life! And how great is it that you are able to handle the extra weight and major life decisions with such enthusiasm and conviction at age 20? If you have a few friends at college who are also watching their excess weight melt away, you might consider starting your own chapter of the Kick in the Tush Club. Let me know, and I will send you a starter kit. Thanks for writing! ~ OLofWL

Artella Magazine printed a special issue this summer called Artella: Body of Art. It includes 35 contributing artists and writers; 12 unique 'how-to' art projects and much more. For those who like to make art - design cards - look at other people's work - watch CD's with fun stuff on them - this mag (comes with a CD of artsy stuff) is well worth the purchase. Here's the link to my page: Concupiscence Cake. Concupiscence means "desire": the faculty of appetite is sometimes referred to as desire or concupiscence. It refers to the fact that each individual feels a lack of something within himself. To address this emptiness, he turns elsewhere for fulfillment.
Wow! Weight loss art with great meaning.

Into the "Lite" ~ Gifts that Delite the Senses!
This week's Into the "LITE" KITT Club Award goes to The Bed Fan for cooling me down and heating things up all at the same time!
For those of us who are ‘hot’ at night and want to ‘cool’ down, I recommend ‘The Bed Fan,’ a very ‘cool’ invention that hooks to the bottom of your bed and blows cool air up your . . . .
Seriously folks, if you have difficulty sleeping due to night sweats from menopause, illness, or just because you are one hot mama, check out The Bed Fan Personal Cooling system. At first glance, I thought it was ridiculous, but after hooking it up, and turning it on, I found it remarkably effective.
An extra bonus .... lots of cool air blowing up from the bottom of the bed, under the sheets, makes for a fun tent that can lead to lots of giggles and big time fun.
KITT Club approved!
