Weighty Confession

Forgive Me for I Have Sinned

When my grandchildren went home, I “accidentally” forget to include the large jar of Nutella in their suitcase.  Instead, I ate it in heaping tablespoons last night and the night before.  Isn’t it an extra bad sin if I steal goodies from children? ~ Bad GMa Judy

Motivational Musing

TURN A DEAF EAR TO CAKE

Many of my clients tell me that they feel as if they are entitled to a treat after a long, hard day at work or a complicated day at home.  “I deserve to have a piece of cake.”

The truth is that you deserve way more than a slice of cake, (no, I am not inferring that you deserve the entire cake!).  Cake only lasts for a short second and then it turns on a dime (or a crumb) into a self-deprecating rant.

You deserve to have what you really, really want, which I believe is to feel at peace, to love and accept yourself, to be free of any and all self-deprecating and self-sabotaging thoughts. Letting go of the negativity will lighten your load, for sure!

Instead of turning to a piece of cake … try turning a deaf ear to cake and one or more of Our Lady of Weight Loss’s A Baker’s Dozen: Thirteen Ways to Reward Yourself at the End of a Hard Day as you Revel in the Glory of Your Greatness (Whew! That’s a mouthful.)
1. Curl up in the corner and read that book that you’ve had your eye on (oh, could it be Our Lady of Weight Loss . . . Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal???)

2. Download your favorite i-Tune for only 99 cents.  A cheap thrill!

3. Order groceries on-line, with your feet up.  (A weigh-safer way to shop, even if you are hungry).

4. Go for a ride on a motorcycle (wear a helmet, please!)

5. Send the laundry out – let someone else fold the towels.

6. String a hammock in your back yard and swing baby, swing.

7. Get a manicure and a 10-minute massage! If you usually get a plain jane color, go bold - if you usually go bold, tone it down.

8. Go to the movies, alone.  (So great not to have to worry if others like the movie, or not.)

9. Take a walk on a hiking trail or in a park, or around your neighborhood.  Walking instead of driving about will give you a different perspective on where you live.

10. Take in deep cleansing breaths. Don't underestimate breathing. It's an amazing thing!

11. Rent a convertible and go for a joy ride.  Blast the radio or your favorite CD while toolin’ around the country side.

12. Go mehndi. Mehndi is the Indian word for Henna. Henna is a beautiful and natural plant product that stains the skin a reddish brown color. When applied properly and in intricate designs you have a natural and temporary "tattoo" that gradually fades away as the skin regenerates.

13. Dye your hair a new color – or brighten up your highlights.

For those who are just tuning in ... here's the link to the original GIGO KICK - "What's In Your Mental Junk Drawer"

Dear OLofWL ~ For your readers who have a quandary about the pronunciation of GIGO - here's what dictionary.com has to say. Having used this term quite a bit in my career, I have always used the gī'gō pronunciation.

GIGO (gahy-goh) Pronunciation Key - a rule of thumb stating that when faulty data are fed into a computer, the information that emerges will also be faulty. [Origin: 1965–70; g(arbage) i(n) g(arbage) o(ut)]
GIGO (gī'gō, gē'-)  Pronunciation Key - n. Computer Science - An informal rule holding that the integrity of output is dependent on the integrity of input. [g(arbage) i(n,) g(arbage) o(ut).] ~ Cheryl M.

Dear Cheryl and all who sent in their suggestions ~ A good deal of you suggested gī'gō and now that Cheryl has sent in the official word from dictionary.com  ... there it is! gī'gō Thanks all! This was BIG FUN for me.  Love it when everyone gets all fired up! ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ I just found your book/website last week, so I hope you can help me with my weight loss grief. I haven't been south of 200 pounds since the mid-1990s. The thing is, I'm 5'7" and genuinely big-boned. So, even if I starved myself to anorectic proportions, my skeleton would still require a size 12.  In other words, by the standards of the dating and fashion worlds, I'll always be "FAT" no matter what I weigh. I don't give a damn about  losing weight to improve my cholesterol or my health; I just want to be able to attract a man, and it's never going to happen. Ugh...can you help me get off this hamster wheel of self-loathing?  Yours in weight loss, Amy

Dear Amy ~ While it's true that the likelihood of your being a size 12 super-model is close to nil; wearing a size 12 is not "FAT."  Good grief!  Let's get some perspective here. As far as a man goes ... before you can let someone into your life and love him, you might want to embrace and love yourself. It hurts me to know that women don't love themselves (I've been there; I know the difference).  If I could change anything for y'all, it wouldn't be to magically melt the fat away ... it would be to magically wave a self-love wand over your heads and have it take hold!  Explore your greatness. If you need help, let me know.  I do offer free consultations. ~ OLofWL  PS: It's pure GIGO.  You are fabulous!

* * *

Dear OLofWL ~ My body has been stuck in a droopy sort of post pregnant black hole for about 26 years.  I fluctuate around 180 lbs., am 5’6", and I'm not in the best shape physically or emotionally. I did lose weight with Jenny Craig but of course, put it back on….so I’m reaching, searching, striving for that mind set change….it eludes me. ~ Linda M.B.

Dear Linda ~ Yes, all diets work, if you stick to them.  It's the mind set that makes the difference.  You might want to start with writing out a list of the reasons you want to lose weight.  If your reasons are compelling enough, your mind may start to shift, turn, and set in an entirely new direction with ease.  Your list will give you an opportunity to get psyched and ditch the negative chatter.  Once you've got your list together, share it with us.  We're here for you! ~ OLofWL - PS:  It's pure GIGO.  You can do it!

WHAT reasons do y'all want to lose weight?  A good exercise for all of us!

Artella Magazine printed a special issue this summer called Artella: Body of Art. It includes 35 contributing artists and writers; 12 unique 'how-to' art projects and much more.  For those who like to make art - design cards - look at other people's work - watch CD's with fun stuff on them - this mag (comes with a CD of artsy stuff) is well worth the purchase.  Here's the link to my page:  Concupiscence Cake.  Concupiscence means "desire": the faculty of appetite is sometimes referred to as desire or concupiscence.  It refers to the fact that each individual feels a lack of something within himself.  To address this emptiness, he turns elsewhere for fulfillment.

Wow!  Weight loss art with great meaning.

Janice's wise words and insightful perceptions helped to keep me focused as I learned to integrate the changes (and challenges) I have taken on in my new way of eating.  With her support, I no longer live in fear of everything spiraling out of control. To date, I have permanently removed 22 lbs. (20 more to go), and I am feeling so much more grounded and centered in my life. I know I will make it! ~ S.A.
