Senior Retreat and Spiritual Emphasis Days

The Class of 2009 departed CCHS campus for Lakewood Retreat in Brooksville on Sunday afternoon, August 17, for the class senior retreat. The senior class sponsors, Ms. Ewbank and Mrs. Lizano, along with Mr. Laughter, Mr. Walp, and Mr. Kilgore served as chaperones. Upon arrival at Lakewood, seniors were assigned cabins and gathered for orientation and dinner. After dinner, students met for the first spiritual challenge of the retreat. Mr. Walp led the session and challenged the students to live differently and honor Christ in all they do. After the session, students gathered in the game room area for carpet bowling, ping pong, and pool. The camp provided hay rides around the facilities. The day concluded with anticipation for Monday’s activities.

After breakfast on Monday, the students met in breakout sessions with Ms. Ewbank and Mrs. Lizano leading the girls’ discussion and Mr. Laughter leading the boys’ discussion. After a snack break, the entire class came together again for a session led by Mr. Kilgore.

The students enjoyed lunch in the dining hall and the entire afternoon was designated to games and activities. While the students were enjoying the camp facilities and activities, Mr. Kilgore was in close communication to the school office concerning the developments surrounding Tropical Storm Fay. When Pinellas County decided to close school for Tuesday, August 21, the decision was made to cut the retreat short and return to our homes in case of inclement weather. Even though the retreat was cut short, the students enjoyed a great time together.

When school reopened on Wednesday, the seniors were treated to breakfast by the PTF (a big thank you to the moms that provided and served the breakfast) and the entire school continued with its plan for “Spiritual Emphasis Days.”  Chapels were held on Wednesday and Thursday with Kelly Knouse, pastor of student ministries at Idlewild Baptist Church, serving as the guest speaker. Kelly did an outstanding job sharing God’s word and challenging the students to practically apply the principles to their lives. Several decisions were made on Thursday as a result of the chapel emphasis.

On Friday, students met in the gym for a “Get Acquainted” assembly. Games and activities were planned by CCHS’ Student Government officers. The assembly not only concluded the school day on Friday, but it also concluded a week of emphasis on leadership, friendship, and outreach for CCHS student body.
