Happy Weight Loss

Hi Tushketeers ~  I heard from a bunch of Tuskateers this week!  Very exciting!  Some of the emails are answered below in "Chewing the Fat."  And ... a few of y'all wanted to know if I could figure out a way for you to print out the recipes without having to print out the entire KICK.  I am looking into programs that can do that, however, it's going to take a bit of time.  In the meantime, you can copy the text and paste into a word document (or similar format) and print on one page.  Make sense?  Also ... a few of y'all wanted to know the nutritional information (calorie count, etc.) of said recipes.  Again, I need to find the right program.  Working on all!  I want all Tuskateers to be happy!

Sexy 101: 9 One-Size-Fits-All Tips on How to Let Your Sexy Rip 

Just in case you haven't noticed, extra large portions of 'chunky' are being dished out this summer television season. In the midst of this schizophrenic landscape that sports fun-house mirrors, moving my psyche from thin to fat, and then back to thin once more, I began to wonder ... what's the summer takeaway? Is there a lesson to be learned from these shows? Is there a golden nugget to be found?

Is 'chunky' in or out?
The shows - Drop Dead Diva, More to Love, Dance Your Ass Off and Ruby - range from dance to comedy to reality - some promote health and weight loss, some say you're fine just as you are, as they light up the grill and fill up on dessert. Mixed messages for sure.

Alas, the sought after nugget of gold came to me during Episode #5 of Dance Your Ass Off, when Shayla showed off her hip hop moves to "Low."

Shayla, a 200+ pound beauty, rocked it with confidence. She oozed sexy. And there you have it, sexy has absolutely nothing to do with the number on the scale. It has all to do with turning off the criticizing chatterbox in your head that stops you from seeing and appreciating your unique and beautiful self.

Sexy people have an 'air' about them. They know how to 'claim what's theirs;' they know how to 'mark their territory.' They know how to stand tall and through body language and words send out a positive message to the Universe. "Here I am! Happy to be alive. Confident, self-assured, and sexy!"

Chewing the Fat

Dear OLofWL  ~ I have three children.  They are less than 2 years apart.  With each pregnancy I gained weight - about 30 pounds or so - and I was able to lose the weight the first two go rounds.  However, this time, the third time, I just don't have it in me.  wellness_pie_chart2

In addition to just plain feeling tired, I'm feeling pretty badly about myself.  My confidence is shot to sh*# ... and even though I try, I fail. Any thoughts, suggestions? ~ L.K.

Dear L.K. ~  Right off the bat, it sounds like you could use some sleep.  Therefore, I think a good place to start is to take a look at the "Wellness Pie."  How do you rate each "slice?"  Are you stressed to the gills?  Is your energy high and happy?  Once you've got your wellness in better balance (because no one has 10's through-out), then you might find that you miraculously have enough energy to follow through on a healthy eating plan.  Looking at the whole picture is always a good idea! Dear OLofWL ~ I am almost 52 years old.  I am 5' tall and I weigh 197 lbs.  I work 10 hour days in a very stressful environment (prison), and I am tired when I get home.  I come from a family of fat.  I am the only one who has not developed diabetes. Three of my siblings have already had gastric bypass.  I want to be healthy.  I refuse to go that way.  Please send me some words of encouragement and/or wisdom to help carry me forward. Dear OLofWL ~ Your article about the "one spoonful" of sugar in your coffee was a real "aha" moment for me. I have been hovering just under the 140 mark for two weeks now, having removed 26 pounds of fat since Feb. 25. I decided to take a very close look at my "habits" and I found that I was not counting the calories for the 1% milk that I add to my coffee every day! I measured it out and found that I am pouring in about 1 1/2 Cups (150 calories) to my coffee in the morning as I drink my 36 oz or so of caffeine fix. That is in addition to another 3/4 C or so if I have cereal.

A clear violation of commandments 5 and 6! Knowledge is power! So now I am measuring out 1 cup and that is my limit for coffee and cereal in the morning. Thanks for the kick in the tush!  ~ Sandy in MO

Righteous Recipe

Black Bean & Mango Summer Salad
Nutritious and delicious! And ... it takes place in just one bowl.  No big clean up, no cookies, just a little chopping! 

Ingredients:

1 15.8 ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed
2 cups mango, diced
1 cup sweet red bell pepper, diced
1 small sweet onion, thinly sliced
1/4 cup cilantro leaves, chopped
1/4 cup lime juice, freshly squeezed
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Hot sauce to taste, Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions:
Combine all ingredients, including beans in bowl. Toss and serve.
