Our Lady of Weight Loss will toss your Chapter name into a hat, and come May 31st, she'll pick three winners to receive an “Our Lady Weight Loss Box-O-Inspiration.” There are no rules.  Well, maybe one – that y'all smile while taking the Kick in the Tush Club Oath!

Righteous Recipe

BLACK BEAN/CORN/CELERY SALD with SPICY PEANUT DRESSING from Kick member in good-standing, Madeline! 

Ingredients: 1 pound bag of frozen corn * 1 - 15 oz. can black beans, drained * 2 stalks of celery, sliced or diced * 2 tablespoons (Trader Joe) Asian Style Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette (adds only 8 grams of fat to the entire recipe) * sliced green onions (optional)

Instructions:  In large bowl, microwave frozen corn for 3 minutes.  Toss in drained black beans.  Toss in celery. Adds a nice crunch!  Then add the Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette.  And thinly sliced green onion, if you like.  

"Simple, easy and flavorful. I take this on hiking trips for lunch, and also keep a bowl of it in the fridge for any time.
And the INTENSE flavor is also a good medicinal for PMS time!!" ~ Madeline

Dear OLofWL ~ Do you have a suggestion or two that might help me?  I work from 1:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  I'm hungry when I get up, but I wait to eat breakfast until 3 a.m.  I have a hearty snack at 8 a.m. and then lunch with friends at 11:30.  I then share dinner with my husband at 5 p.m.  So I'm really getting 4 meals a day due to my crazy schedule.  What can I do to cut out one of these meals?  (Plus, lunch out always leads to eating too much food.  Why don't the waiters take the plate away when you're done?) Thanks. ~ Tired and Hungry

Dear Tired and Hungry ~ Actually, I have five mini-meals a day, so I don't think that the frequency of your eating is the problem.  Perhaps you can eat smaller amounts - mini-meals.  It's the total of the calories that count; not the number of meals!  As for the waiters, you might consider being more assertive.  When you are finished with your meal, ask them to put the food in a doggy bag or ask them to clear the plate immediately.  In other words, find them.  Don't wait for them to show up.  ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ HELP!  I am in a downward spiral.  My day starts off with such great hope.  Breakfast is sensible, but if I err at lunch, the rest of my day spirals downward, as I feel that the whole day is ruined because I ate something fatty. ~ Joanne

Dear Joanne ~ Permanent fat removal is not an 'all of nothing' happening.  If you err at lunch, simply go back to your healthy eating plan after lunch (don't wait till the next day). Your currently belief system includes a downward spiral.  Try this:  Close your eyes and imagine an upward spiral.  How great does it feel to travel up the spiral? Hold on to the feelings, pictures, sounds, thoughts associated with an upward spiral.  In addition, plan your lunches ahead of time. Perhaps brown bag it or explore take-out and restaurants that have foods that you can easily and effortlessly order that are on program. You have more control and are stronger than you are giving yourself credit for.  You can do it. ~ OLofWL

Dear OLofWL ~ Not to beat a dead horse here (re: the hot dog recipe), but I just automatically substituted Boca sausages for the hot dogs....(I had them handy in the freezer). The recipe was good but kind of sweet (probably due to possibly my baked beans having too much sugar already).  I plan to try it again with just pinto beans....and of course the Boca sausages or the tofu hot dogs.!! What is a creative act of weight loss?

It’s ANYTHING that you do that feels good and feeds your soul, other than eating (the ‘bad’ stuff - in excess - when not hungry).

When I am tempted to eat eat eat, I grab my weights (get it?) and go outside or in a room far away from food and do a few sets of everything on the list. 

This is a win-win:  lifting weights and doing the reps helps build muscle.  I defy anyone to try and eat while lifting 12 pound weights.  ~ Ruth E.
