Julia Masciangelo, More Information on This Dear Farragut Friend
Born in Minersville, PA – November 21, 1919 Raised in Minersville and graduated from Minersville High School then moved to Ardmore, PA in her teens. Married a handsome LT Bill Masciangelo in August of 1942 Moved to Pine Beach, NJ and spent their lives in Pine Beach living initially off-campus but then on-campus at Admiral Farragut Academy as AFA became their life. They had one son, Bill, Jr. Lt Col USMC ret and now full-time pastor UMN in Hertford, NC Julia worked for over 30 years as administrative assistant to the county engineer of Ocean County. She was an avid bridge player and many life-long friends came to her via her bridge playing. She loved the Academy and assisted her husband for over 50 years. She hosted students in the early years who could not go home for the holidays. She also hosted many alums for surprise dinners and of course on alumni weekend and other parade and game days at AFA. Julia was one of six children. Her oldest brother Andrew was a Marine and was killed in Iwo Jima. She is survived today only by her youngest brother Ralph Phillips who resides in Del Ray Beach, FL and her son Bill, Jr. who is married to Susan and living in Poplar Branch, NC. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Julia was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church since 1942. She loved music and dancing. She could listen to opera all day long. She was also an avid organ player and would spend hours playing. She called it therapy. She relished her lifelong friends from AFA and oh the memories and stories she could tell.
