Greetings Tushkateers!   Happy Monday!  I hope you had a glorious week.  It's been busy here.  If you followed my Twitter tweets or Facebook happenings, you'll know that I set my hair on fire at a restaurant on Saturday night.  I find this particularly interesting, as I recently made a video of myself (the One Minute Energy video) that included a graphic of my hair on fire.  Do you think I manifested that photo?  Happily, my hair was more smoldering than ablaze ... but still!  If this is the case, I am going to henceforth create different images of myself!!! scream  :)

Also ... yesterday was my birthday!  The amount of birthday wishes on my Facebook page was overwhelming! Thrilling!!!  I started writing 'thank you' notes to those who left notes, but at the end of the day, there were too many birthday wishes for me to do so. I recommend listing your birthday on Facebook!  A huge heartfelt thank you to all who added both on the page and off their wishes.    It was big fun! :)

Weight Loss Counseling is a tax deduction! 

I'd mentioned in the last KICK that Weight Loss Counseling is a tax deduction.  A bunch of y'all wrote me, asking for more info.  So ... here follows an excerpt from the IRS website.  Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway - I am not an accountant.  You definitely should check with your accountant to make sure all the 'i's are dotted and 't's crossed, and then write me for a free consult!

Here's what the IRS site said:   You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay to lose weight if it is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease). This includes fees you pay for membership in a weight reduction group, weight loss counseling as well as fees for attendance at periodic meetings. You cannot include membership dues in a gym, health club, or spa as medical expenses, but you can include separate fees charged there for weight loss activities.

You cannot include the cost of diet food or beverages in medical expenses because the diet food and beverages substitute for what is normally consumed to satisfy nutritional needs. You can include the cost of special food in medical expenses only if: The food does not satisfy normal nutritional needs; the food alleviates or treats an illness, and the need for the food is substantiated by a physician.

Dear Our Lady of Weight Loss ~  A year ago, on April 13, I started a weight loss journey that moved me from 195 lbs to 138 lbs.  I was a part of a doctor supervised program which included a monthly visit to the doctor, as well as nutrition and exercise classes.  I walked 10,000 steps a day; I kept my calories to approximately1200 a day.  I went from a size 16 to a size 6 and threw away all my fat clothes!   My numbers (scale, choolesterol, et al) were fabulous. My friends and family were amazed!
 
One thing I forgot to tell you ... the doctor prescribed Meridia to curb the cravings.  I did great as long as I had the meds but the first of the year the program ended, and I have unhappily gained 10 lbs.  Fortunately, I kept my size 8s but every thing above that is gone!!!  Thank goodness!!!
 
I am a teacher and school will be out soon.  I keep telling myself that I will get back on the wagon then.  I know I need to do it now before it gets any worse but it seems with all the stress of the end of the year of school, all I want to do is eat!!!  If I see food, I think I should eat it!  I just really need a kick!!!  Thank you! ~  C.A.M.

 
Dear C.A.M. ~  Are you eating right now?  Is there a slab of cake in your mouth? "NO?!"  Great.  Then you are back on the wagon NOW.  Do NOT wait for tomorrow never comes.  NOW, please!   

Remember - that permanent fat removal is all about getting back on the wagon again and again, as you change your mind and lifestyle.  If your 'plan' is not sustainable, it will not work!  Drugs are not sustainable. 
The drugs (and okay, the doctor too) robbed you of taking responsibility for your life.  Chew on that!!!  

Listen up and lighten up. 
It's not about the food; it's about your life.  It's not about your relationship to food; it's about your relationship to your mind (your thoughts).  It's about being honest with yourself and taking responsibility.

Redefine appetite.   Are you hungry for food or emotionally grazing?  What are you really hungry for? "Beef up" your appetite for life!  Take responsibility for your actions.  Get back on the wagon NOW and start moving toward your compelling future.  What will losing weight give you that you wouldn't otherwise have?  ~ OLofWL

Righteous Recipe
Tush Kickin' HUMMUS

Ingredients:
2 cups dry chick peas (garbanzo beans) - about 5 cups cooked (save water)
1/2 to 1/3 cup Lebonese tahini (sesame paste)
3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
5 cloves garlic, peeled
1/4 cup water (use chickpea cooking water)
3 tablespoons olive oil
salt to taste

Instructions:
Place all ingredients - except olive oil - in a blender and blend into a thick paste. Add water (chick pea water) as needed.
Put it in a pretty bowl.
Using a spoon, press the center down.
Then drizzle the olive oil into the center!
Serve at room temperature or refrigerate.

Pitas: If you want to eat as a sandwich, get a great piece of whole wheat pita and stuff it! :)
