Motivational Musing
What a day for a daydream!
While waiting for the 6 train on 116th and Lexington Avenue (not the most beautiful subway stop in Manhattan), I took the opportunity to mentally review my to do list: pick up low-fat milk, watermelon, multiple bags of salad, one-calorie per spray dressing; drop off dry cleaning; call my cousin; send out press packages …
The thought of artfully designed Our Lady of Weight Loss press packages making their way to their final destination – the desks of all the major producers of national talk shows - sent me off and running - well, actually – off and daydreaming. I mentally drifted into a peaceful, happy place filled with possibility - a place that was far, far away from the grit of the subway.
In my mind’s eye, I imagined producers zealously opening Our Lady of Weight Loss press packages, delighting over their contents - Glorious Greeting cards, Pious Postcards, bumper stickers that display the immortal words of OLofWL, “All Is Forgiven. Move On.” and of course, the best permanent fat removal book ever written: Our Lady of Weight Loss: Miraculous and Motivational Musings from the Patron Saint of Permanent Fat Removal. The producers were all yelling out to their assistants, “Get Janice on the phone now! Book her!”
Just as my phone was ringing, and I was about to say “Yes, I will be on your television show,” the train came screeching through the subway tunnel toward the platform – bright lights, loud horns a honkin’ - and my trance was broken.
Daydreaming is a type of trance state. It is a fantasy that one has while awake – often spontaneous, as was my daydream. Some daydreams are about future scenarios, some replay past experiences, and many daydreams are connected to some type of emotional experience.
Daydreams with intention are a form of self-hypnosis. You effectively release all conscious control in the moment and simply allow yourself to go with the flow of your gut feelings or your sixth sense. You go for a mental ride, allowing your unconscious mind to pretend to imagine. You can easily allow your attention to be directed inward and reach a part of yourself that you cannot reach while conscious or while sleeping.
Einstein daydreamed his way to the Theory of Relativity. Proof positive that daydreaming both stimulates the mind, relaxes the body, and is a process that can help to set goals, manage conflict, boost productivity, increase creativity, achieve goals and relieve boredom. (Go, Einstein! Go.)
New Point of View: Daydreaming is as important to permanent fat removal as food and movement (a.k.a. exercise). Make it a part of your day.

Righteous Recipe
Righteous Recipe ~ Watermelon Salsa, a very nice change of pace!
Ingredients: 3 cups watermelon, seeded and chopped * 1 tablespoon cilantro, chopped * 2 medium Jalapeno peppers, chopped * 1/2 cup green peppers, chopped * Juice from 1 fresh lime * 1 tablespoon green onion, chopped * 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder * a dash of salt * one dash of hot sauce (optional)
Instructions: Combine all ingredients; mix well. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Makes 3 cups.

Heidi, from Springfield, a 65-pound big-time-loser (woo hoo, Heidi) and long-time KITT Club member, sends a corn on the cob tip: "Drizzle a small amount of olive oil on a plate and roll the corn in that (if you have one of those nifty corn on the cob-shaped plates, so much the better). Then, sprinkle a little salt on the corn. I swear, it's full-flavored. And, olive oil is one of the good oils that gives back."

Yet, my problem is this: At the end of the day - sitting alone in my cozy apartment over dinner, somehow that extra glass of wine and sweet dessert are irresistable...nearly every night! Dear OLoWL ~ Love, love, love your newsletters and your attitudes towards weight loss! I'm on the "loser's bench" with 65 pounds lost so far. Here's one thing that I do that really helps to keep me motivated ... I have a running mental list of all of the cool things that are happening and will continue to happen to me as I lose weight. For example, when I'm going up my front stairs (several times a day!), I say to myself "Soon, I won't be huffing and puffing when I get to the top!" or when I'm putting on my elastic-waist jeans, I say "Soon, I will be wearing jeans with a fly!" and so on. I find that these affirmations work really well, because they deeply ingrain in me just what it is that I'm working towards. Thanks again for all you do! ~ Cornelia G., Everett, WA

And here a couple of verses that I wrote myself - 'warning' verses and 'inspirational' ones that I came up with:
