Up late working on a project for my college class, I went on a rampage and consumed two entire rows of my roommate's Oreos! I bought her a new pack, but the cookies remain, hanging onto my hips to remind me of my sin!

Into the "LITE" . . . .
Counting Onions
I can remember, some years back, when I joined (for the 14th millioin time) one of those groups where people obsess about food and weight (you know what group I’m speaking of, yes?), and the leader announced that there was a change in the point system. Onions were no longer considered ‘free.’ They were now to be counted as one whole point!
The air got sucked out of the room. People panicked. They gasped. They moaned. Mary Sue screamed out, “It’s no wonder I’m not losing weight. I haven’t been counting my onions.” (Meantime, Mary Sue had chocolate stains on her jacket! But we won’t go there.)
The level of upset was so intense that I thought a committee would be formed to hit the supermarkets, confiscate the onions and burn them at the stake.
Similarly, when the FDA recently revisited food labels and announced that yesterday’s medium apple was now considered small and that the calorie count had increased from 80 calories to 150 calories, panic filled the airwaves, my phone rang off the hook and my e-mail in-box was overflowing with alarm! I did, on the one hand, empathize. Really, if you can’t count on an apple to be what you need it, want it, expect it to be, what can you count on? Nevertheless, upset aside, I counseled everyone to “Get a grip.”
Truly, if you aren’t losing weight, I seriously doubt it’s because you had a super-sized apple or two or even three and miscalculated its calorie count. It might be the bag of chips, the slice of pizza (the entire pie), that slab of birthday cake, or the constant grazing, mightn’t it?
New point of view: A large apple does not a fat person make. (Let’s not get nutty!)

Righteous Recipe
Kate G. from Des Moines, Iowa sends us a NICE SUMMER SALAD!
"Here's my idea for a nice summer salad. I cooked some quinoa, it was really easy I just put it in our rice cooker. It is kind of a light nutty grain. I used about a 1 1/2 cups of cooked quinoa, chopped celery about two ribs, two chopped carrots, can of rinsed and drained black beans, chopped red onion, cilantro, chopped red or yellow bell pepper. I mixed it all up in a big bowl added some Italian dressing. Even my teenage daughters liked it. Yum, you could change it to add whatever your favorite veggies are.

Dear OLoWL ~ I would like to send my unconscious mind this message.... "Eat to Live." Currently, I live to eat, giving food power...power so I don't have to feel life at times! I am an emotional eater and it's a very hard thing to change. I am going through a lot of HUGE changes in my life right now, and I just eat so I don’t have to think about what's going on. I hate myself for it and daily wake up and say NOT TODAY...but I lose my power by the end of the day! So I'm in this vicious cycle where I lose and gain weight over and over. Help me I'm drowning!~ B.M.
Dear B.M.~ The fact that you sent me a letter stating that you are an emotional eater speaks to your wanting to change and that you have already begun to stop the 'lose and gain cycle.' How about trying a new way of being. Instead of losing to gain; you can gain to reduce. There is no longer a need for you to gain any more. You have already gained enough to reduce. It's wonderful to know that you can no longer need to gain, isn't it? It's time to reduce.
I also want to say that I know how it is to not like oneself. The greatest gift I gave myself by permanently removing 55 pounds was to like myself; even love myself. Life is short. Hating oneself is a terrible waste of effort and energy. If you'd like a free consultation, please me know. If I could make any difference in the world it would be to end 'self-hatred.' It is a simple formula, but I get busy, and forget to exercise, and it is too easy to eat high calorie snacks. When I exercise, I feel better about myself, and then limit my intake.
